Of course no less than Rappler would be among the first mainstream media outlets to break the “news” about the Yellow Camp’s petition to the Miss Universe organizers to cancel this year’s pageant to be held in Manila.
In recent months, chauvinism, brutal shaming, rape jokes and a sweeping disregard for women as persons deserving not merely of a token, but true, respect has been exhibited by the President of the Philippines with his salacious and sexist comments and treatment of female reporters and opposition figures, which has carried over to his allies in the Philippine Congress.
To hold the Miss Universe Pageant in Manila at this time would serve as a reward of this intolerable behavior and excuse such behavior. It would reinforce a troubling trend in our society. It would make your organization a partner to these backward and dangerous steps.
Do not hold Miss Universe in Manila. Be a partner for the liberation and not the subjugation of women. Take your pageant elsewhere and do not reward a regime that is trying to turn back the clock as far as women’s causes are concerned.
Now isn’t that ironic? There is a certain idiocy that only the Yellow Camp can deliver in putting up the Miss Universe pageant as a rallying point around which a statement in protest of the “subjugation of women” would be mounted.

Does this idiocy need to be elaborated upon?
To most, it would be obvious, but for the benefit of those to whom simple concepts like these are alien, I shall indulge.
First of all, the Miss Universe pageant (for that matter, any beauty pageant) is a remnant of a time when objectifying women was considered wholesome family entertainment. So I find it laughable that bozos like Vicky Garchitorena would be signing this petition — a rather infantile grasping at straws coming from a bunch of old ladies whose generation made a major pasttime out of celebrating such spectacles.
Second, if these old ladies are gonna appeal to an international body like the Miss Universe organizers to boycott the Philippines, then they should extend that call to all the rest. Following their Yellow logic, every other entity that holds events in the Philippines, in principle, “serve as a reward” for the “intolerable behavior” of the government of President Duterte and “excuse such behavior”.
Konting thinking naman sana mga amiga. Instead of busying yourself clucking over petitions to the Miss Universe to boycott Manila, you should, instead, get a better grip on more important things — like growing a bit of brain.
Frustrated artist doing geek for a living.
I just don’t get the purpose and logic behind beauty pageants.
Great point, Kate!
Not just moronism, but also HYPOCRISY at its best.
Decency but rule breakers as well (SOCE deadline for example)?
Not that I care about ANY beauty pageant. I think they are for primitive and shallow people. Something for horny old men to drool over and talk about. They serve no purpose what-so-ever, except maybe to show us that sometimes beautiful women are not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
“do not reward a regime that is trying to turn back the clock as far as women’s causes are concerned”
Since when is a beauty pageant a woman’s cause???
The yellow amentia never stops!
EXACTLY WHO presented this petition to the Pageant? EXACTLY who signed it? EXACTLY where is this petition? Has anyone seen this petition? Does anyone know anyone who signed this petition?
ask CRAPPLER sir.
Miss universe is no better than strip clubs
Imagine if the next Summer Olympic games will be held here in Manila & those yellow army will make a boycott to move to other cities instead due to President Duterte’s BAD behavior that could ruin our country on international community. But I don’t think that will work like other beauty pageant & sporting events like Miss U & Olympics, still the show will goes on whatever what country’s political, economic & social conditions will be or even on how the country’s president/prime minister’s behavioral character he/she have it. Take a look at what it done to the 1936 Berlin, 1980 Moscow, 1984 Los Angeles, 2008 Beijing & even this year’s Rio Olympics. Both of these Olympics Games had a call to boycott these sporting events but it had continued anyway. And the reason of these issues is, one word: MONEY!!! [Pera, pera lang yan at wa’ epek ang boycott-boycott na yan.] 😀
Hmm, if Miss Universe is held here, someone will complain. If it isn’t, someone else will. Can’t Filipinos make up their minds? Looks like there’s just no satisfying Filipinos who don’t really know what they want.
I don’t care about beauty pageants…visiting a titty bar’s better than wasting my time watching who’s the next Miss Universe.
The truth is, one who seeks to achieve freedom by petitioning those in power to give it to him has already failed, regardless of the response.
To beg for the blessing of “authority” is to accept that the choice is the master’s alone to make, which means that the person is already, by definition, a slave.
Everything now is tainted by politics by the YellowTards. Anything they will use to promote their political agendas, including the Miss Universe contest. They will use it…
Aquino and his YellowTards are behaving like children , in a very immature manner. Miss Universe is a beauty contest…it is beyond politics.
What is next for them ?
If we hold a dog or a cat contest. They will ask for boycott, also, because Filipinos are eating dogs ? And some of the Chinese are eating cats ?
Or if we have an intellectual contest. Boycott the Philippines. Because there are too many YellowTards, in our country…
Or boycott, GRP, because, there are too many YellowTard bloggers, who blog nonsense !
I’m sorry for being a spoiler but I have a different take on the matter.
Contrary to what how things go here, it’s not about color. It’s not red, yellow, orange, white, etc. it’s all politics.
The issue of Miss Universe is just one manifestation that Pres. Duterte has to recognize the fact that he is now playing in a major league. He is no longer administering a piece of land like a small town or a spacious city where by the flick of his finger things will immediately happen as he expect them to be. He is no longer performing before the eyes of one million hoi polloi. He is now representing a country of 100 million Pinoy.
In other words, the Philippines is NOT Davao City that can be run based on whims or style or one’s like. As president you will encounter different, strong, critical, continued and consistent opposition from within and without to whatever action you take that has anything to do with the country either by substance or form.
Yes, we can take it against those who proposes to cancel the holding of the Ms. Uni pageant but things will not stop from there. There will be other voices of protests and sounds of disgruntlement on other matters that will be directed to the government because that is how democracy works.
Do I agree with the view that the pageant should be cancelled? No. It’s an entertainment that should not be drag down for political purpose.
Though we don’t have to belabor as to what the pageant really is. No need to sour grape, no need to examine its nature or origin just because others want to cancel it. Again, the political stage has grown monstrously huge that more people are now on stage fighting for the limelight.
That’s politics, big time! ????
Question for everyone, why does the Philippines want to spend money on the Miss Universe pageant? The pageant always cost countries more money to have it then the country will make. It is the same way with the Olympics. There is a reason why most countries are refusing to host the Miss Universe pageant and the Olympics. When did the Philippines get enough money to start throwing money away on useless stuff for the global world to see? http://money.cnn.com/2016/10/11/news/olympic-games-cost-rome-2024/index.html
When you “the Philippines”, are you referring to the Philippine Government.
At first, Duterte mentioned before that the Philippine Government won’t spend for the pageant.
Well, it seems “[Duterte] has approved in principle, Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo’s proposal to host the forthcoming Miss Universe pageant in Manila.” [link]. :).
There will be corporate sponsors for the pageant, but honestly, I’m not sure to on which area the government will sponsor.
The Tourism secretary says it’s good for tourism. Let’s see . . . -_-
You have a point. It costs around US$12 Million to host this nonsense.
See my reply below to bethesda. Let me just add, though, that Filipinos are used to and known for splurging and pulling out all stops for fiestas that are practically worthless.
But have you dated a beauty queen?
What’s a beauty pageant after all? Does it help in the development of a country/nation? What is its relevance to any society anyway?
No, it just makes the Filipinos feel good, under the illusion that it is the stepping stone for them “to ascend to prominence” in the world stage.
And it’s a big advertisement for beauty products. Actually, that’s a good question, Bethesda.
It is not moronism, it is a logical attempt to bring down DU30. The morons are those who do not see their motive.
