Is current Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo one of the dumbest politicians in the Philippines today? With her recent actions, it seems like it. Robredo has decided to go on a full head-on collision course against her President Rodrigo Duterte – someone she is supposed to serve as part of her mandate. In a pre-recorded video meant for the 60th annual meeting of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria, Robredo addressed her “concerns” about Duterte’s war on drugs:
“We are now looking at some very grim statistics: since July last year, more than 7,000 people have been killed in summary executions.”

“Some of those who have told us that when there’s crime, they normally go to the police. Now, they don’t know where to turn. Our people feel both hopeless and helpless—a state of mind that we must all take seriously,” she said.
The problem with Robredo is she reported unverified claims against Duterte and the Philippine National Police to the international community, specifically the United Nations, without backing them up with data from the law enforcement agency. For someone who is advocating against “fake news”, Robredo made serious allegations based on hearsay. She’s being inconsistent and a hypocrite as usual. It’s like she’s not a lawyer. She has pissed off the Philippine National Police by painting them in a bad light. She didn’t even ask them for clarification about their scheme “palit-ulo”, which is “a commitment of a drug suspect to provide assistance in the arrest of a ‘bigger fish’ in the illegal drug syndicate.”
Robredo’s action is despicable. It is tantamount to treason. In her efforts to bring down the the Duterte government, she is inadvertently bringing down the entire country. The consequences of her actions would be devastating to Filipinos who have suffered instability for decades as a result of destabilisation efforts by the Liberal Party and their allies.
Robredo doesn’t care about respecting Philippine institutions and upholding the rule of law despite calling for it in her statements to the UN. If she did, she wouldn’t ask for international intervention in dealing with local issues. And Robredo advocating for rule of law is quite laughable considering she allegedly benefited from electoral fraud. She seems desperate lately because there is a strong probability that the Presidential Electoral Tribunal could decide on her fate soon – a decision that might not be favourable to her once it is proven that she benefited from electoral fraud.
Robredo’s actions could be her way of getting back at Duterte for firing her from her cabinet post. She may want to avenge her loss of face by destroying Duterte in the eyes of the international community. It doesn’t seem to matter to her if the rest of the Philippine population gets dragged down too. Her latest antics prove that she is not very smart. She doesn’t know how to play politics discretely. She is blatant in undermining her rival. Her style quite often backfires though. She must be the most hated politician in the Philippines today, second only to Senator Leila De Lima.
Just because Robredo is not part of the Duterte government anymore and is not included in cabinet meetings doesn’t mean she has to direct her questions to the outside world.
While Robredo comes across as an airhead, Filipinos should not underestimate the people feeding her head with material to say to the international media. A lot of members of the international media still think she has credibility, unfortunately. This has a lot to do with their own bias against Duterte. They will believe whoever says what they want to hear and if Robredo says the things they want to hear; she will be their “credible source”. These meddlers need to be put in their place and told to butt out of affairs they do not understand.
Robredo overestimates her ability to lead 100+ million Filipinos. She can’t even offer alternative solutions to the problems the Philippines is facing today. How is she going to face-off with drug lords with her tweetums style? Her charm would only be good for selling coffins – something only people need when they are dead. She’ll probably bring back “Daang Matuwid”. She keeps emphasizing that Duterte should focus on poverty alleviation instead of fighting criminality. She’s too stupid to understand that reducing crime is good for investors who can provide employment and alleviate poverty.
A VP trying to undermine her President doesn’t look good at all. It just makes her look like she wants to replace Duterte. Self-serving. Robredo is acting like a traitor. It’s as simple as that. She should step down as soon as possible. The problem is she neither has the brain nor conscience to do so. She is so power hungry. She doesn’t care if the Philippines’ reputation gets tainted even further as long as she achieves her goal of being President. She’s digging her own grave. Now that is dumb.

A lot of Pinoys are screaming for Leni Robredo’s blood on Twitter right now, but getting rid of this woman requires calm, rational thought.
Demanding her resignation is not going to work. Robredo is thick-faced enough to occupy a position that she neither won nor has the qualifications for, and she has the gall to keep criticizing a President who is infinitely more popular and skilled than her. Do you think someone as shameless as her will resign voluntarily? Of course not.
Impeaching Robredo is also not practical. It will take too long, and cost too much political capital. She’s not worth the trouble.
A recount of votes is one possible option. However, there are signs that the yellow holdouts in the Comelec have tampered with the election records. A recount should only be done if the results will be credible.
Another practical solution is a rematch. Declare the position of VP vacant, then schedule special elections as soon as possible in the areas covered by the pending election protest against Robredo. Let’s see if Robredo can still win without Smartmatic and the PCOS machines.
Some well-known Duterte supporters are calling for a rally against Robredo. This should only be done after cases against her have been set in motion and are ready for resolution. Rallying when there is no actionable measure yet might be a waste of time.
I don’t know how much of the truth Leni’s handlers allow her to know, but if she saw how quickly the #LeniResign hashtag trended to No. 1 after her video came out, she should start planning her exit while she still can. Given the amount of anger building up against her, if she keeps doing what she’s doing, it’s very likely her head will end up on a spike. That’s one palit ulo video she won’t want the UN to see.

As much as I really distrust this joke of a VP, the main message of the article somehow strikes us in the face as well – we have to remember the days when we SO love to lambast BS Aquino-Cojuangco(I myself still maintain not just political disillusionment, but also personal hatred towards him and his family and his true-blue allies) , and her lambasting Duterte seems to be in the same phenomenon – criticizing the President means criticizing the country, thus somehow contradicting the proverb, “One can love the country without loving the government”.
Then again, at least we are not government officials. Also, as the Philippines is supposedly a democratic country, we are still within our constitutional right to express freely.
But still, the Philippines is still Asian in orientation, depending more on unwritten laws(i.e. tradition, word of mouth, etc.), unlike traditional Western states, which operate on codified, written law, so…
You know what’s the one thing symbolic of our failure to uphold our own democracy? The lack of force enacted by the people to really pursue the last electoral fraud where the 2nd highest executive was installed. That same election that placed Duterte into power through an overwhelming win. It really says a lot about where we’re directing our efforts.

One strict reminder for you to consider: the right to free speech is NOT absolute. We are a democracy but it does mean we have blanket authority to just freely express ourselves because there are consequences.

I agree that holding a rally now is a waste of time. Mocha Uson and Jimmy Bondoc need to calm down and use their heads. Congress is in recess until May. Alejano’s joke of an impeachment complaint can’t even be acted upon.
Stop calling for rallies every time the yellows do something. You’ll wear people out. Rallies should be done only when there are specific results that can be achieved. The crowds will start thinning out if you keep holding rallies every month.
It’s more useful at this point to start a validated signature campaign calling for a recount or rematch, as the other commenter suggested. Special elections in the contested areas is very doable. I’m sure the Comelec can easily arrange that.
Question is, can the Comelec be trusted? The Liberal Party lackey Andres Bautista is still there. So it should be special elections supervised by the PET, not the Comelec.
Know this, Leni Robredo: you will be removed. It’s only a question of when and how. And once you’re out of your stolen VP post, the Filipino people will make you pay for everything you’ve done.
You can run to the international media all you want, but there’s no escaping the wrath of the Filipino people that’s coming for you.

We need to fix the flush mechanism in this country’s political toilet a bit more expeditiously. There are faster/cheaper ways of resolving the electoral protest for VP position: for example, statistical random sampling of all regions/age groups/classes can be done by a trusted neutral entity. Just one simple question: who did you vote for VP in the last elections?

It’s not just Leni Robredo’s video to the UN that makes her guilty of betrayal of public trust.
She also gave an interview to Time magazine (http://time.com/4701765/leni-robredo-duterte-drug-war-philippines/) that was published around the same time as the release of her UN video, the filing of the impeachment complaint against President Duterte, and the announcement of the EU Parliament’s resolution.

Maybe your masters left you out of the planning because you are just a puppet, but they were definitely coordinating their moves.
Note that in the Time interview, Leni makes the Philippines sound like a chaotic, dangerous place with a total breakdown of law and order, such that international organizations need to intervene.
She also undermines the integrity of the Philippine judiciary by telling the world that Leila de Lima’s arrest (which was ordered by the court) was politically motivated and basically illegal.
She conveniently fails to mention that the national penitentiary became the center of the drug trade in the Philippines when it was under De Lima’s control as Secretary of Justice, and that the two top drug lords in the national penitentiary testified that they had dealings with De Lima–testimonies that were corroborated by other witnesses.
In the Time interview, Robredo opines on the merits of a case that is already in court. She is using her position as (alleged) Vice President of the Philippines to get the attention of international media to influence the outcome of the case.
On top of that, she depicts the hearings on the Bilibid drug trade at the House of Representatives as a farce, meant only to humiliate Leila de Lima.
So she didn’t just try to discredit the PNP and President Duterte in an international forum with her UN video.
She also tried to discredit the Philippine judiciary and the House of Representatives in this international interview.
If that’s not Betrayal of Public Trust, I don’t know what is.
Leni represents everything tacky and infantile about our politics. To stoop to her level by calling for rallies will not get true justice meted out. We need objectivity in dealing with such problems. Too many are led easily by persuasion of their emotions. Please, get ourselves together first and have rational approach to the irrational.
